Nine crew members on board the Marshall Islands-flagged container ship MS Mattina have the Delta variant of Covid-19.
The Ministry of Health said whole genome sequencing had also shown the variant wasn’t linked to any previously confirmed Covid-19 cases in New Zealand.
In total, 12 crew members had the virus and all remained quarantined on board the vessel where they would maintain the minimum functions at the port, the Ministry of Health said.
They will not have direct contact with any port staff while maintaining these functions.
More to come.
