Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav are set to join the India Test squad for the five-match Pataudi Trophy. It is learned that both Shaw and Yadav, who are currently playing the T20I series in Sri Lanka, were picked by the selectors after the Indian team management sought replacements for the injured trio of Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan and Washington Sundar, who were ruled out of the England tour.
While Gill and Sundar were part of the 20-member India squad announced in May for the World Test Championship final and the England series, Khan was part of the four standbys. The BCCI is yet to put out details of the injuries to the three players ruled out. Gill returned to India this week after being troubled by shin splints in his left leg post the WTC final in June. Avesh fractured his left thumb on the first day of the three-day warm-up that the Indians played this week against a County Select XI in Durham. Sundar, who along with Avesh had played for the County XI, but did not bowl, is learned to have picked a finger injury.
